To look for help with allergy is one of the commonest reasons why people in the UK look for medical information on the internet.

Private allergy clinics

The medical consultants who contribute to this site provide private allergy clinics for adult patients serving London and the South West and The South Coast

You can also search by postcode for a private allergy clinic near you through the Specialist Info website.

One way to be sure that the clinic is run by a properly qualified medical allergy specialist is to ask if a note of referral from your GP is needed.  Allergy clinics run by people without proper qualifications do not request this.

NHS allergy clinics

One reason for this is that they have found it difficult to be referred to an allergy clinic. Your GP is the best person to advise you which local clinic or specialist to consult because NHS allergy clinics will not see you without a referral note from your GP or hospital specialist. NHS allergy clinics exist in most parts of the UK although the extent of this provision is rather limited.  So most of the service is provided by specialists in other disciplines (e.g. dermatology, chest medicine, ear nose and throat) with an interest in allergy.  Several cities have a dedicated allergy service run by an allergy specialist.

Most doctors in the UK with expertise in allergy are members of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology. This society keeps a register of the NHS clinics run by its members and this register can be inspected on the BSACI website.
