Dust Mite Allergy Testing
View All TestsWhat is Dust Mite Allergy?
House dust mites are microscopic creatures that thrive in warm, humid environments. They are found in bedding, upholstered furniture, and carpets. It's not the mites themselves but their droppings that cause allergic reactions.
Dust mite allergy is one of the most common causes of year-round allergic rhinitis and can also trigger asthma symptoms. Symptoms include sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy eyes, and coughing.
Our blood tests measure IgE antibodies to dust mite proteins. Both the Allergic Rhinitis/Asthma Profile and ALEX² test include dust mite allergen testing. Results are provided directly to you to share with your GP or specialist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are my allergy symptoms worse at night?
Dust mites are most concentrated in bedding (mattresses, pillows, duvets), so exposure is highest while sleeping. This can cause symptoms to be worse at night or upon waking.
Is dust mite allergy the same as being allergic to dust?
House dust contains many allergens including dust mite proteins, pet dander, mould spores, and cockroach particles. Dust mite allergy specifically refers to sensitivity to dust mite proteins.
Which test is best for dust mite allergy?
The Allergic Rhinitis/Asthma Profile includes dust mite allergen testing along with other common environmental allergens. The ALEX² test provides our broadest panel, covering over 300 allergens.
Do I need a GP referral for allergy testing?
No. You can book directly with our clinic without a GP referral. Simply choose your test and select a convenient appointment time. If you're unsure which test is right for your symptoms, our team can help guide your selection.
Do I need to stop taking antihistamines before a blood test?
No. Unlike skin prick testing, IgE blood tests are not affected by antihistamines or other allergy medications. You can continue taking your regular medications before your appointment.
What should I do with my results?
As a diagnostic-only clinic, we provide results for you to share with your GP or allergist who can advise on environmental control measures and management options.
