Pet Allergy Testing
View All TestsWhat are Pet Allergies?
Pet allergies are immune reactions to proteins found in an animal's skin cells, saliva, and urine. Cat and dog allergies are the most common, but people can also be allergic to horses, rabbits, rodents, and other animals.
Symptoms typically include sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and in some cases, asthma symptoms or skin reactions. These symptoms occur when IgE antibodies react to animal proteins (allergens).
Our blood tests measure specific IgE antibodies to pet allergens. The ALEX² test and Allergic Rhinitis/Asthma Profile both include cat and dog dander testing. Results are provided directly to you to share with your GP or allergist.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I be allergic to some pets but not others?
Yes, you can be allergic to cats but not dogs, or vice versa, as they have different allergen proteins. Some people are also allergic to specific breeds or individual animals more than others.
Do I need to be around pets before the test?
No, IgE antibodies remain in your blood regardless of recent exposure. Testing can be done at any time.
Which test is best for pet allergies?
The Allergic Rhinitis/Asthma Profile includes cat and dog dander testing along with other common allergens. For comprehensive testing including multiple animal allergens, the ALEX² test covers over 300 allergens.
What should I do with my results?
As a diagnostic-only clinic, we provide results for you to share with your GP or allergist who can advise on allergen avoidance strategies and management options.
