Seasonal Allergy Testing
View All TestsWhat Are Seasonal Allergies?
Seasonal allergies — commonly known as hay fever — occur when the immune system reacts to airborne allergens that are present at specific times of year. In the UK, these include tree pollens in spring, grass pollens in early summer, and weed pollens and mould spores in late summer and autumn.
Symptoms typically include sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, and throat irritation. Some individuals may also experience associated conditions such as oral allergy syndrome or worsening of asthma during peak pollen periods.
Our blood tests can identify sensitisation to specific pollen species, helping you understand exactly which seasonal allergens may be driving your symptoms. Results are provided directly to you to discuss with your GP.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get tested outside of pollen season?
Yes. IgE antibodies remain in your blood year-round, so testing can be performed at any time. Many people choose to test during winter to prepare for the upcoming pollen season.
How is seasonal allergy different from a cold?
Seasonal allergies typically cause itchy eyes and nose, clear nasal discharge, and sneezing, and last for weeks during pollen season. Colds tend to produce thicker nasal discharge, sometimes a fever, and resolve within 7–10 days.
Do I need a GP referral for allergy testing?
No. You can book directly with our clinic without a GP referral. Simply choose your test and select a convenient appointment time. If you're unsure which test is right for your symptoms, our team can help guide your selection.
Do I need to stop taking antihistamines before a blood test?
No. Unlike skin prick testing, IgE blood tests are not affected by antihistamines or other allergy medications. You can continue taking your regular medications before your appointment.
What should I do with my results?
As a diagnostic-only clinic, we provide results directly to you. We recommend sharing them with your GP for interpretation and to discuss management options ahead of your relevant pollen season.
